It’s Spring!!! The weather is getting (a bit!) warmer and the sun is starting to shine. There are Daffodils, Forget-Me-Nots, and Tulips and Hyacinths blooming, lambs and calves are being born. We are seeing more blue skies which means the bees are able to get out of the hive and start foraging for food. We are checking on the hives a bit more to ensure the bees have enough food and tidying up to make sure the entrance to the hive is clear of vegetation. As the days are getting longer, the queen steadily increases her egg laying.
We need to make sure all of our equipment is ready to start the season; assembling frames, preparing queen raising equipment and get ready for the upcoming season.
We will be planting our bee friendly plants and flowers in our garden at home:
- Marigold
- Sunflowers
- Poppies
- Honeysuckle
- Blackberry
- Cucumber
- Courgette
- Bee balm
- Rosemary
- Thyme
